Today marks a week since our arrival in Malawi, and so far everything is going pretty well. After a mammoth day of flights, we arrived in Lilongwe at about 1 o’clock, and after successfully making it through customs and collecting all of our luggage, we proceeded to Mabuya campsite, our base for the first two night. It was here that we met Sam, an English scout who moved out here after taking part in the 2007 sunrise camp. He’s the person that’s set up our main community project and he’s been quite helpful so far.
On Wednesday we proceeded down to Zomba and Makwawa scout campsite, which is our base for the next week or so. After an eventful journey, we arrived at the campsite to be greeted by a host of Malawian scouts, who taught us some of there really nice campfire songs, while we taught them some of our rather silly ones…
Our current project is going well. We are building a classroom at an orphan daycare centre about 15 minutes away from the campsite. After some initial teething problems, the project is now well underway and the constuction crew hope to finish the bricklaying today. We have been organised into 3 patrols, with 2 working on the project and 1 at base camp sorting out food and stuff. The system seems to be working well as not only does it mean the building team don’t have to do anything other than work on the project, it also means that they get a chance to recuperate during their 2 home days. I’m sure someone else will add another update as soon as they can, but for now everything is going well and we’re all having a really good time:)

Hi everyone
We arrived yesterday (monday) and have been staying at mabuya campsite in lilongwe which is very friendly ans has a great but cold pool.
we arrived at about 3 and got picked up from the airport after traveling for nearly 17 hours. we stayed in dorms and had a barbeque.
today we got an audience at the british high commission and had the luxury of using there pool and club house (apparently no one uses the pool after may as it is too cold )
We are all safe and sound and we are excited about travelling to makwawa tommorrow.

Hi All,
Just letting you know.. The Malawi Expedition team have been deposited at London Heathrow Terminal 4. After collecting most of the trollies around, the filled them up with their personal and group kit and entered the airport.
Last I heard, they’ve all boarded safely and were waiting for take off…
