Tanzania 2002

Leader Team – Craig Gregory, Tom Percy & Paula Sharpe

10th March – 5th April 2002

After completing a gruelling 18 month training programme 11 expedition members including 3 leaders embarked on a 4-week adventure in Tanzania. The training included a winter week in Scotland, an Easter in the Lake District as well as numerous weekends in the New Forest.

The adventurous aspect of this trip saw the group climb the highest peak in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. At 5895m the group used the tough Machame route to ascend to the summit over 5 days.

The community projects were organised in conjunction with the Tanzanian Scout Association and consist of building projects the Sungu and Matembonie Primary Schools both of which the group stayed at for a week working with the school children to compete the work.

Following the community project the group had time to enjoy an amazing safari in the Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater where they saw Lions, Giraffes, Hippos, Zebras, Monkeys, Elephants and more in their natural habitat.

On return to Dar es Salaam the expedition managed to cram in 24 hours on Zanzibar before heading home!!
